DIASPORA DIALOGUE: SLAVERY AND COLONIALISM
SLAVERY...SO WHAT???

Join us for an enlightening dialogue on slavery and colonialism as it pertains to the 21st Century of Africans in the Diaspora. We'll walk back in time as we start our Diaspora Dialogue series for 2011, at the Freedom House Museum, once the housing of the largest slave trading company in the country.
Seating is limited - maximum of 30 guests - so register today! Tickets are $10 and 50 percent of the proceeds will go to the Freedom House Museum and the Northern Virginia Urban League.
Freedom House Museum Front Door
Thursday, March 24, from 6-8:30 PM at the
1315 Duke St, Alexandria, VA 22314
(King Street Metro - 3 blocks)

Does the history of our ancestors still cripple the minds of our parents and children's generation today? Should one feel an obligation to go to Africa and trace the lines of their families past in order to feel complete, or in order to pay respects to those that came before? In the end, we hope you'll leave the event inspired and full of continued hope for the future.
Thursdays dialogue will include Dr. Raymond A. Winbush, a scholar/activist, professor at the Institute for Urban Research at Morgan State University and author of "The Warrior Method: A Program for Rearing Healthy Black Boys." The book is based on the traditions of Poro Society, an ancient rite of passage ritual in West Africa, where 85 percent of Americanized Africans have their genetic roots. Dr. Winbush was a guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show, along with the stars of the critically acclaimed Oscar-winning film Crash.
Immediately following the event, please join us for an interactive tour of the Freedom House Museum.
